Reading midfielder Jem Karacan has said he hopes his performance against Manchester United will earn him a recall to the first team.
The 23-year old has not started a league game for the Royals since the 3-2 victory over West Brom in early January, but was in the starting XI for the FA Cup tie at Old Trafford. Jem has lost his place in recent games to the returning Danny Guthrie and new signing from Crawley Hope Akpan, but Karacan hopes to earn his place back in the side soon.
Speaking to Jonny Fordham of the Reading Post, Jem said: 'The competition here is really good, but I hope I have staked my claim to get the shirt back. I want to play every game and that's my aim. You dream as a kid about coming to Old Trafford and it was nice to have my family and friends there watching.'
Jem may not have been the stand out player on Monday, but he gave what you always expect from him, 100%. Despite this, I would still probably have Ledge, Akpan and Guthrie over him at the moment, with Daniel Carrico also close to full fitness. He's probably the sort of player you would bring on to see out a game and work in the midfield.
