Adkins edging closer to appointment?

If the bookies are to be believed, Nigel Adkins could be very close to becoming the new manager of Reading.

Before people wonder if I am getting this information from the Hob Nob Anyone? forum, I'm not, I wouldn't be that silly! In fact, it's the same source how we had a heads up on Brian McDermott's departure - the bookies! Outlets such as Bet Victor, Paddy Power, Ladbrokes, Stan James have already suspended betting on Adkins becoming the next boss.

Sky Bet are still taking bets (as of 11.31pm on Monday), but at a very short price of 8/11, with Spaniard Luis Enrique coming in at second favourite at 4/1. Some people have said Adkins was spotted at the Madejski Stadium hotel on Monday night, but this hasn't been confirmed or proved by any reputable sources.

If this is true, I'd be very content with the appointment. A manager that has an attractive, passing philosophy of football, which earned Southampton consecutive promotions. I would not expect him to keep us in the league, but will look forward to his management in the Championship and beyond.

think Adkins would be a very shrewed appointment for you. he likes to play decent football and you have a set up and club structure that means he could fit in easily and without too much upheaval from the Mcdermott era

Good point made there about him fitting into our structure, that was what worried fans about the possibility of Di Canio coming in, who is very much the opposite to our club ethos. Adkins has a great record at Football League level too.
