Parachute payments to increase!

If there is anything to soften the blow of inevitable relegation, it is that our parachute payments are set to increase!

In quick summary for those who don't know, parachute payments are sums of money given to clubs that have been relegated to in theory, soften the financial blow of not having Premier League TV revenue. The original figure given over four years was 48 million, but is now set to increase to 60 million, meaning 15 million a year.

When the Royals went down in 2008, it was only spread across two years, but after a voted change in 2010 by the Football League, it will now stretch across a four-year period. Some have criticised this system, as it is effectively helping those that have failed. It is also relevant to note that teams do not have to accept these financial packages.

We did not really see a huge amount of this financial beneficiary five years ago, as at the time, it would have been more of a problem to Sir John Madejski than it would have been to the present with Anton Zingarevich. Either way, I hope we spend it wisely and invest it in the correct places. In Anton we trust!

Another example of the EPL trying to raise the trap door making it even harder for clubs who have never made the greedy league to get aboard the gravy train. Another small step towards the death of football as we used to know it.
