Defender could still agree Reading deal

Defender could still agree Reading deal

It appeared that talks between Reading and Alex Pearce were dead and buried, but apparently not, after recent quotes with the free agent.

The 24-year old was officially released by the Royals at the start of the month and after reportedly having talks with Liverpool, it appeared that he wouldn't be a Reading player next season. However, Pearce has revealed that both parties are still in talks, but wants to be valued in terms of wages.

Speaking to Sky Sports about his future, Pearce said: 'I've always maintained that I want to stay at Reading and I've always told people at the club that I want to stay at Reading and that is the case. But I also want to feel valued and I'm not asking to be the top-earner at the club, nowhere near it.'

'Obviously, it's very flattering to be linked with Premier League clubs, everyone wants to play in the Premier League and certainly I've had a taste. I think playing Premier League football is the main aim for me right now. But obviously, if a deal can be reached at Reading, then I would be more than happy to sign it and move forward with the club.'

This has dropped quite a big hint that Pearce could be staying after all, but will it be the same? A player that was praised for his desire and passion, will he be looked upon in the same light? I don't want the club offering him crazy money and giving into his demands, I would probably offer him £25,000 max - even that is being kind!

Stam's pre-match views Reading would find it hard to sustain a promotion-push, let alone a top 10 finish couldn't have come at a worse time as the Royals were then thrashed at Fulham.
