Royals set to complete fourth signing

Reading are set to sign former Fulham defender Chris Baird on a free transfer.

The Reading Post have confirmed the deal is set for completion and QPR boss Harry Redknapp also confirmed he chose the Royals over the table topers, whom he has been training for, for over a month. Baird was released by Fulham at the end of last season.

The 31-year old is primarily a central defender, but is capable on playing on either defensive side and also in central midfield. He also carries great experience at Premier League level, playing over 120 games for the Cottagers in the top flight.

As I mentioned, he has been training with QPR over the past few weeks, so is probably nearing full fitness. With Jem seemingly out for a while with a serious knee injury, Baird would provide decent cover, as well as another centre back option, with the departure of Adrian Mariappa leaving us short on that front.
