Youthful reserve side draw in friendly

A youthful reserve side drew 2-2 with Bournemouth at Hogwood Park yesterday.

The side contained four recognised first team players in Nick Blackman, Hope Akpan, Shaun Cummings and Stuart Taylor. Along with these notable names, the exciting prospects of Shane Griffin and Gozie Ugwu were also on display in a hard-fought game in Berkshire.

Blackman opened the scoring in this friendly with a spot kick, but the Cherries would bite back in the second. First team striker Brett Pittman equalised from the penalty spot, before firing home a superb free kick from the edge of the box.

Reading did respond though in the latter stages of the game, as Shaun Cummings' cross found Gozie Ugwu to level the scores. It is also worth noting Stuart Taylor made some smart saves during the game and could appear in the first team soon, with McCarthy injured and Federici picking up a knock against Doncaster.

An extended match report can be found here.

Reading XI: S Taylor, Cummings, Cooper, Keown, Griffin, Murombedzi, Akpan (C), Kuhl, J Taylor, Ugwu, Blackman
