Midfielder waiting on extended deal

Chris Baird has said he is yet to be offered an extended contract by Reading, but is keen to continue his stay at the Madejski Stadium.

The Northern Ireland international only has a deal with the Championship side that runs until January, but is hoping for an extended deal. He has started every game since his arrival last month, which was fuelled by the injury to centre midfielder Jem Karacan.

Quoted by Sky Sports, the former Fulham man said: 'I'm playing football and that's the main thing. I'm really enjoying it and hopefully that can continue. I'm happy here and we're getting results. If the club wants to speak to me then I'll listen.'

'So up until January, I'll keep doing what I can for Reading and we'll see what happens. At the end of the day it's down to the club. I'm very grateful to them for letting me come here. It's been great so far. All the players and staff have made me really welcome.'


I can't see any reason why he wouldn't be given an extended deal, but I would imagine it hinges on Jem's injury progress. Even if he does make a quick recovery, Baird is a great player to have for his versatility and experience in the top division and international level.
