McCarthy keen to make amends

Alex McCarthy made a rare mistake against Sheffield Wednesday, but wants to put things right against QPR today.

The young keeper has been in outstanding form this season, but would have been disappointed with his part in the Owls' second goal, spilling a Chris Maguire shot very easily for Benik Afobe to tap in. McCarthy is aiming to atone for this error at Loftus Road this afternoon.

Speaking to the Reading Chronicle, McCarthy said: "Obviously I`m disappointed with how it went on Saturday. I tried to cushion the shot but the ball ended up spinning out and Benny Afobe was there to tap it in. He did say to me afterwards he thought he was offside.'

'Saying that we dominated a lot of the game and I felt that if we could get one goal we would go on and win it. But that summed up how it went for us. Those are the joys of being a goalkeeper. You make 10 good saves then one bad decision and it costs you."

I'm sure he will get an opportunity to make amends in what will a tough game and be likely to have something to do! It is hard to criticise McCarthy after the form he has been in this season - at least it may fend off a few potential suitors for now!
