'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Adkins: It was great to see him score

The relationship between Royston Drenthe and Nigel Adkins hasn't exactly been flourishing in the past few months, but Brighton could be a turning point for this.

The Royals boss gifted the Dutchman his first Reading start in nearly three months, after not seeing a lot of pitch time since returning from injury in December. However, Drenthe repaid the manager's faith shown in him with a good performance at the Amex and getting the all-crucial equaliser with a good, low finish.

Speaking to the Official Reading FC website, Adkins said: 'It was nice to see Royston score. We've talked about his ability and again, if we can get him in good areas of the pitch then he's got it within him to beat someone one on one and put shots and crosses in. We're pleased that he's got on the scoresheet.'

Could this finally be the period where Royston Drenthe proves why Real Madrid signed him for over 15 million? Maybe so. He certainly needed a run in the side and a confidence boost and while his game isn't built on goalscoring, I'm sure there is a lot more to come from the talented winger.
