Young Royals make history

Reading's under 18 side made the semi-final of the FA Cup for the first time in our history, beating Liverpool on penalties.

The game at the Madejski Stadium finished 4-4 after extra time, in what was an enthralling fixture in the FA Cup quarter final. David Dodds' side went in at the break one up, thanks to a superb individual effort from striker Harry Cardwell.

The young forward then doubled the lead after the break, but two late goals from Liverpool meant the game went into extra time. With their tails up, the Reds scored one in each half, as it appeared they would be cruising through into the semis of the cup.

However, substitute Taylor-Crossdale got one back with three minutes of extra time remaining, before McLennan topped off this crazy game with an equaliser. It therefore went to penalties, with the Royals coming out on top 5-4, scoring all of their penalties.

This now means that we will either play Fulham or Huddersfield in the semi final of the cup, with the first of two legs to be played at the Madejski Stadium.

A fantastic achievement for the youngsters, who played with great confidence, against a Liverpool side with some very good players. You can't underestimate the jobs that David Dodds, Martin Kuhl, Eamonn Dolan and Gilksy are doing with these young lads at the moment.
