'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Reading defender in contract talks

Michael Hector is being touted as a Royals future star, but is yet to agree a new long-term deal.

The 21-year old's contract is set to expire at the end of the season, but after various loan spells away from the club, is well within the first team. He started his first home league game against Huddersfield last week and could continue there against Charlton this Saturday.

Speaking to the Official Reading FC website, the young central midfield said: 'They are still in talk. I don`t really know where it`s at. My agent and the club are dealing with that. I`m just concentrating on my football. That`s why I`ve got an agent.'

"If I was doing it myself then I probably would be worrying about it, but that`s his job and hopefully he sorts it out. My goal is to stay here. I feel part of the set-up here. It`s a great club and hopefully things can get sorted. I just want to be playing games.'

I hope a new deal is sorted for Hector - at 21, it is clear he has great potential. I'd hope we would develop him as a central defender though, not a centre midfielder. If Adkins want players that can play out from the back, Hector fits that bill perfectly.
