Royals striker completes move

Adam le Fondre is no longer a Reading player, as he has moved onto fellow Championship side Cardiff City.

The 27-year old completed his move earlier today on a three-year deal, departing after three successful seasons at the Madejski Stadium. The fee has been undisclosed, but should be enough to pay the unpaid 1.6 million tax bill, with another one also due in two weeks time.

Alfie soon became a fans favourite at the club, after scoring some very important goals in the promotion-winning 2011/12 season. He followed this up by scoring 12 goals in the Premier League and 15 this season, accumulating a total goal record of 41 in 109 games.

He left the following statement following his departure, thanking the fans for his time in Berkshire:


It's a massive shame to see Alfie go, but I suppose on the scale of things, it had to be done. I don't agree with it being a step up for him, but considering he only had one year left on his current deal and working with his idol, it gave him more long-term security.

This will now hopefully have a positive impact on our growing financial worries and provide the platform to get ownership in within the next few weeks. From then, we need to replace ALF, with big Pog being our only recognised striker still left at the club.
