Hector: We can challenge for promotion

Royals player Michael Hector firmly believes that the Royals can challenge for promotion once again.

On the whole, we had a disappointing campaign, which had great expectation, but other issues proved as stumbling blocks. However, despite the recent takeover happening after Hector's interview, the 21-year old feels promotion again has to be the aim next season.

Speaking to the Reading Chronicle, Hector said: 'I can`t see why we can`t challenge for promotion next season, that has to be our target. A few players have left like Alfie but our squad hasn`t changed too much. I`m sure the manager will try and bring in some new faces.'

'The fact is I think we underperformed a little bit last season too, which was disappointing. We had chances to reach the play-offs but we just couldn`t get over the line. That`s gone now and the main thing is we are determined to make amends next season."

I'm not sure if we can say promotion is our aim until we hear more about the new owner and his ambitions here. Hopefully, there will be early investment and if there is, I can't see no reason why Adkins can't add to the squad and challenge for promotion again next time round.
