'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Adkins: Taylor is taking his opportunity

This time last year, Jake Taylor was pretty irrelevant, but is certainly proving his point to the manager this pre-season.

The former Wales under 21 international signed a contract extension in the summer, after proving his worth from the bench in cameo appearances last season. Young Taylor has had a good pre-season too, scoring against Wycombe last week and putting in another good shift.

Speaking to the Official Reading FC website, Adkins praised Taylor's performances by saying: 'He works like that every single day in training so it came as no surprise to any of us. I know he'll maintain that workrate. He's got an opportunity and is grasping it.'

Taylor added that: 'We want to play nice, attacking football. We've worked on it a lot during the pre-season, so it's nice to show that in a game-situation. The togetherness in the squad is great. Everyone is backing each other which is what you want in a team.'

With our current injury situation, I'm sure Taylor will get his chance to prove himself in the league and he has earned that right with his performances in pre-season. Technically he has the ability to compete at this level, but physically, he may not be fully ready yet.
