Coppell Pondering Johnson Move

Reading boss, Steve Coppell, has indicated that American international, Eddie Johnson, could make a move to Reading.

For a week now the, Eddie Johnson has been training with the Royals whilst on his educational visit and Coppell has been watching with a keen interest to see if Johnson fits well into the squad:

'It is quite interesting to see how he integrates and mixes, whether we take it any further I really don't know."

With the US Major League Soccer in out season, Johnson has been free to spend time at the Madejski Stadium and train with the Reading squad.

"It's been great. From when I stepped off the plane Nick Hammond was waiting for me, and we had a conversation in the car like we'd known each other for years!" Johnson said.

'That was my first impression, how excited they were to have me here training. It's been all I thought it was going to be. It makes it easier for me when the guys treat me like they have, it's been first class.'

And Steve Coppell has admitted that a new front man might be just what Reading need, especially after striker Dave Kitson suffered an injury setback.

'So many questions have to be run through. At the start of the season we had four strikers and we were happy with that, but then we went down to three and you are less comfortable.

'You then think about what might happen after January if you go down to two and heaven forbid one, and then you realise you have to sign more players than you really need to make sure you are not vulnerable.'

Meanwhile Johnson believes it is the team`s closeness that has bought them this far and perhaps makes it a team he wants to move into:

"There`s a good chemistry and great staff, that explains why it`s going so well.

"There`s a lot of quality players and one the things I like is that no-one acts like they`re better than the next person. There`s one goal - to work hard and win games."

Eddie Johnson, playing in a stadium near you soon…?
