The Sky Sports website had alleged that Reading are on the brink of offering Steve Sidwell a new contract.
The midfielder is the at centre of much transfer talk as his contract with Reading runs out in the summer.
Up until now Reading have not agreed terms on a new contract with the influential ex Arsenal player but now it seems they are ready to get the ball rolling.
Sky Sports assessed that Sidwell will hold talks in a matter of days, taking time first to weigh up his options.
Meanwhile the midfielder himself has spoke of his fears of Reading losing their goal scoring striker, Kevin Doyle.
Doyle has scored 10 goals so far this season and netted 19 in Reading`s record breaking Championship winning season - not bad for a guy who cost but 75K.
Sidwell commented that Doyle has been a revelation.
'His attitude and dedication is brilliant.
'Bigger clubs have been watching him this season and if bids come in for him this month or at the end of the season it would be a tough decision.'
But will Reading be willing to sell?
The Irish international is under contract at the club that will last at least two more years.
Reading`s boss has been linked with another striker, Crystal Palace`s Clinton Morrison.
The Daily Mail claims that the Reading boss wants back up for his thinly spread strike force, especially with the persistent injury problems that dog Dave Kitson.
But whether the Reading manager will raid his old club for the 23 year old Ireland international remains to be seen.
