Swift's Monthly Award Delight
John Swift could have stayed at Chelsea last summer but took the decision to sign a three year contract with Reading.
This has seen him impress with him picking up the EFL Young Player of the Month award for January. The 21 year old said he was 'buzzing' to win the award but his first priority is to keep Reading in the promotion battle.
He told the BBC.
'We're still up there, we're still pushing for promotion and hopefully we can stay there. It's a big push, the last couple of months. But I'm sure all the boys will keep doing the right things and stay up there until the end of the season. Personally, I'm just glad to help the team keep up there in the league and I'm buzzing to win the award.'
Swift's impact was immediate as he scored on his debut against Preston and has gone on to score eight goals in total so far - despite a spell on the sidelines too - playing in a no.10 role under Jaap Stam.
England U21 international Swift didn't take long to settle in with his teammates welcoming him quickly with Stam a boss he's enjoying playing under.
'As soon as I got here, I fitted in straightaway, all of the boys greeted me and I just got on with it really. I have been on a few loans so it was quite easy to fit into the team. I am all settled now and just concentrating on the league. He [Stam] was a top-class player so he knows everything about the game and exactly what he wants from his team. He gets his point across very firmly and all of the boys really respect him.'
