If Wigan are to stay in the Championship an 11 minute hat trick from Nick Powell on Thursday could prove the turning point? Two down, 19 minutes to play, the Latics were dead and buried against Barnsley - this 3-2 win moves them five points from safety.

Brentford's 4-0 win over Derby - a fourth win in five - keeps the Bees very much on course to finish in the top-10. This heavy defeat for the Rams - after three straight wins - all but ended their slim hopes of finishing in the play-offs.

Successive wins means Bristol City, 18th, remain four points clear of the relegation zone. QPR - suffering a fourth straight defeat - pulled a goal back in added time but it couldn't deny the Robins a 2-1 victory.

Huddersfield's slim automatic promotion hopes were boosted when they came from behind to lead Preston. An equaliser from the visitors looked as if it would see the game end in a draw until Town scored an added time winner in this 3-2 victory to close to within eight points of second-placed Newcastle, with a game in hand - North End will now certainly miss out of the top-six.

A third defeat in four was suffered by Norwich when losing 3-1 to play-off chasing Fulham - who won despite having a player sent off in the first half. The Whites remain two points behind Sheffield Wednesday, sixth.

Nottingham Forest are right back in a relegation battle following a defeat at the City Ground against, then second-bottom, Blackburn. A late goal clinched Rovers a 1-0 win to move to within two points of Burton and Forest.

Already relegated Rotherham ended a 10 game losing run with a late equaliser in a 1-1 draw with Birmingham. This point means the Blues are only four points clear of the relegation zone.

Sheffield Wednesday's late winner secured a 1-0 victory over Cardiff that kept the Owls above Fulham, seventh, in the final play-off spot.

Wolves slipped to back-to-back defeats against title chasing Brighton. Albion's 2-0 win took them five points clear of Newcastle at the top - who reduced this to four when held later that evening.

A second defeat in three has seen Burton slip to within a couple of points of the relegation zone. Ipswich's 2-1 win at the Pirelli Stadium has all but secured them a place in the Championship next season.

Newcastle dropped two points against Leeds when conceding a dramatic added time equaliser at St James' Park. The Magpies, four points behind leaders Brighton, had been set for a win until the Whites claimed a 1-1 draw - moving them three points ahead of Fulham, seventh.

Aston Villa's first defeat in five was a blow to their top-10 finish hopes. However, Reading's 3-1 win - as the Royals reacted positively to a 7-1 trashing at Norwich - took them up to fourth, six points clear of the play-off chasing pack.
