Swifty pens new deal while striker search continues

Swifty pens new deal while striker search continues

There may be a lack of key signings, but another new deal has been handed out to one of our young stars.

John Swift has committed his future to the club by signing a five-year deal, keeping him at the club until at least the summer of 2022. The England under 21 international has had a very promising start to his Royals career, with 9 goals and 10 assists in his first season in Berkshire.

Liam Kelly and Chris Gunter have also been nailed down to longer terms deals, with Jordan Obita likely to be next with his current deal running out next summer. The last scenario we want to be in, like Danny Williams, where better options open up if he has a good season.

This is good news clearly, but fans still want to see more in the transfer window. A striker remains on the top of the priority list, with Nakhi Wells confirmed as a transfer target, but injury could scraper a potential move to Berkshire with an operation a possibility.

With the season starting this Saturday and the injury list mounting, we may need to look at short term options. The squad for very thin for the Vitesse friendly, so lets hope the medical team get those boys on the treatment table up to scratch ready for QPR in four days time!
