Player Ratings - QPR (A)

Player Ratings - QPR (A)

We waited all this time for the football season to return, then we have to witness a performance like that! Here are the players' ratings from the 2-0 loss to QPR on Saturday.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Vito Mannone - 6 - Not the worst debut from the new number one, who was helpless with both goals. His distribution was slow and tentative at times, but he'll grow into the style of play like Al-Habsi did with time. Made a great save in the second half, but was offside anyway.

Chris Gunter - 5 - I know the stand-in skipper has his critics, and this was certainly a day for them to have their moan. He didn't do much wrong defensively - you could argue he could have done for at the back post for the goal, but didn't offer much offensively.

Liam Moore - 6 - One of our better players on a bad day and spent most of the game carrying a calamitous Ilori. Made a few crucial blocks and clearances, but was still part of the defensive mess in the first half.

Tiago Ilori - 4 - I had high hopes for him this season and I still do, but this was a dreadful performance. In an attempt to play out, he presented QPR with a chance on the edge of the box and tried too hard to play Stam's way. The red card just compounded his afternoon.

Tyler Blackett - 5 - Similarly to Gunter, Blackett wasn't too bad defensively but his distribution once again massively let him down. Should have done more to stop the cross for the opening goal.

George Evans - 5 - Surprisingly out of sorts, he was tasked with the role of holding the midfield and protecting the defence, but failed to do either. His passing was slack and was bullied all game.

Liam Kelly - 6 - It wasn't Kelly's finest game in a Reading shirt, but he showed plenty of heart. In an afternoon where we were second to every ball and physically outplayed, Kelly with his bulldog-like attitude would constantly hassle at any opportunity.

John Swift - 5 - Swifty is either unplayable or not in the game - it was the latter on this occasion. He rarely saw much of the ball in his defence, but even when he did have it, he looked sluggish and off the pace.

Adi Popa - 5 - I'm not sure if he is ready to start games yet, he strikes me as more of an impact player of the bench. He didn't show his usual energy and pace to get at players, and was very passive.

Pelle Clement - 5 - This rating may seem slightly harsh, but he didn't do anything of any note and looked too lightweight. It may be more beneficial to see him play more centrally, as his talents seem more suited in the middle.

Jon Dadi Bovarddson - 6 - Probably our best player of the afternoon, who unfortunately had it ended early because of injury. Plenty of energy and directness, he did well considering he led the line on his own. Positive signs from the striker, who looks like he could flourish most with a partner.

-----------------------------SUBSTITUTES-----------------------------

Modou Barrow - 6 - Very lively cameo appearance from the new signing, who showed plenty of pace and directness.

Omar Richards - N/A - The academy graduate made his debut in tough circumstances, but held his own in the short time he had.

Joseph Mendes - N/A - It's good to see him return from injury and looked lively. Hopefully gets a run out tonight and could be in contention to start on Saturday with our striker shortage.
