Stam Expecting Tough Preston Test
Manager Jaap Stam has said he's determined to pick up more points in this weekend's trip to Preston North End but he's expecting it to be a tough clash.
We go into the game at Deepdale unbeaten in the last three matches, with our comprehensive victory over Aston Villa in midweek being our first three Championship points but speaking to the Official Site as he met with the media for his pre game press obligations, Stam knew we would be up against a quality outfit, so it was down to us to show our strengths again.
'We don't look at that result because of last season, 'we lost there so now we need to win,' we know and everybody knows that every game, especially away games, are very, very tough. It'll be very hard to beat them, they know how we play. They did last season and they did it very well. They're very aggressive going forward, we need to know that they're probably going to be doing that as well. We need to be prepared for that, but we will work very hard for ourselves to get a result.'
He went on to say.
'We want to do that in a certain way of playing, if we can't do that in the way we want to play then we'll do it in a different way. That's what we're looking for, and we are warned by what happened last season.'
Mo Barrow and Joey van den Berg were also on press conference duties ahead of the game and having opened his Reading account against Aston Villa, Barrow explained.
'I've never played against Preston before, so I don't know what to expect but I attack every game. I go in with the same mentality, and I think that's the most important thing. I'm enjoying myself every game, there has been great support for the squad and for me. I'm really happy every time I get out knowing it's game day.'
Van den Berg added.
'That was last season, we can't be looking back to last season any more. It's a new season, it's a difficult game of course but we go there with confidence. We're not that hard a squad to fit in with, we try to make new players as comfortable as possible to fit in the team. That's what you need, I think. With our togetherness, we have to be strong in it and keep everybody together.'
