Royals shuffle staff, while Welsh lads keep dream alive
There were a few interesting shifts in staff roles last week, while Chris Gunter and Dave Edwards enjoyed victory with Wales on international duty.
It was confirmed by the club that Michael Gilkes will replace Steven Reid as first team coach, after working with the academy - Reid left last month to pursue new challenges. A very good move by the club to make a club legend into the first team fold, I'm sure he has plenty to offer.
There was also a change for the under 23s, as it was confirmed Martin Kuhl left his role at the start of the season. He will be replaced by former Villa coach Scott Marshall, who boasts an impressive coaching CV. Considering the under 23s struggled last year, it is not a surprise.
I am surprised we didn't bring in a Dutch coach to that role, to create a better pathway to the first team, but I'm sure Marshall can get the best out of our academy. Best of luck to Martin Kuhl also, who made great strides with our academy and will now look at new ventures.
On the international front, both Chris Gunter and Dave Edwards played ninety minutes for Wales, as they strengthened their chances for qualifying for the World Cup by beating Austria 1-0. Edwards had a very impressive game, as he could look to make his Royals debut on Saturday.
