Talking points ahead of the Norwich game

Talking points ahead of the Norwich game

The past couple of weeks there has been plenty of talking points, not overly nice ones either, so we assess some as we look forward to welcoming Norwich on Saturday.

When is Stam going to be under pressure? - I know there are a very small majority who want to see Stam gone, but I doubt the fanbase will kick up enough of a fuss to want him gone. However, how much patience will the notoriously-fiery Ron Gourlay have? Stam has been well-backed this summer, more so than last season, and with a tough run coming up, it wouldn't be out of the question if the board started to notch the pressure up on the Dutchman.

Jon Dadi must be scratching his head - Despite coming on against Hull and bagging a goal, Jon Dadi Bovardsson still found himself on the bench on Tuesday night, with again, no recognised striker in the line up. It took up until the 80th minute for Stam to bring him on, where he couldn't make an impact. I would be very surprised if he doesn't make the XI on Sunday and if he doesn't, what does that do for his confidence being the only fit striker?

When shall we be really concerned about how the season is going? - There is obviously a lot of hysteria and panic at the moment about a recent run and league position, but realistically, when shall we start worrying about where the season is going? I can't see us being relegated, but who is to say we won't get caught up down the bottom of the table? We have nearly played the quarter of the season, but if things don't start improving by the end of October, there could be real concern.

It could turn toxic on Saturday - The fans are starting to get restless and the link between the team and the fans is slowly breaking down - a slow start on Saturday and it could make a long afternoon. We are still the only team in the league not to score a first half goal, now nine games in. I really hope we start well, get an early goal and kick on, but with fans already low on patience, it may not work out well.

Stam needs to get rid of five at the back with Obita injured and lack of attacking intent from full-backs - For the last few games Stam has gone with five at the back, with Gunter and Blackett wing backs, who are not known for their attacking intent. This greatly holds us back, so I hope we go back to a back four of Gunter, Moore, McShane and Blackett, a midfield three of Kelly, Bacuna and Edwards, with Jon Dadi, Aluko and fingers crossed Barrow if he is back.
