Don't panic! It's not what you think:
Reading`s record transfer signing returned to Layer Road over the weekend to say a goodbye to former team-mates and fans.
While Reading beat Man City 2-0, the ex-U was given the weekend off to visit his old friends and team-mates, Halford explained:
"It's been an unbelievable last week for me. I didn't really get a chance to say goodbye, when the deal was being done, so that's what I've done."
Greg watched his old team earn a draw with promotion contenders Birmingham in a match that saw Colchester move one point ahead Wolves in the league table sitting at 9th, just outside the playoffs.
Spekaing to the East Anglian Times, Halford explained his motives for returning to his old club one last time:
"I wanted to say a proper farewell to the lads, and the fans, although I'm not sure how many of the supporters knew I was here. I wanted to keep a low profile.
"I'd like to say a big thanks to everyone at Colchester United. I've had a terrific last few years, and it's not just down to me that the team is riding so high in the Championship."
