Forgotten man stars for under 23s
He has been frozen out in recent months, but Adi Popa certainly would have made a point in the under 23s game last night.
The Romanian international was the only senior player in the line up for Scott Marshall's side, as they took on an Aston Villa side at the Madejski Stadium that included Jack Grealish. The Royals were 3-2 victors in a very exciting game and Popa certainly showed his experience.
Popa set up all three of Reading's goal, as he ran the Villa defence ragged all night with his constant directness and running on the right wing. There were a few times where he could have made a better decision, but you could tell he was a man out there with a point to prove.
There have been rumours flying about him leaving in the January window with reported interested from abroad, but he seems to convinced to win his place back. He featured a lot of the start of the season, but with the return of McCleary and Barrow, he's been frozen out.
I do feel for him, especially with McCleary and Beerens in poor form. His end product is hit and miss, but his pace and aggression gives us an option we have struggled with this season. I hope Stam was watching last night and will feel inclined to give him another shot at it.
