Player Ratings - Middlesbrough (H)

Player Ratings - Middlesbrough (H)

Another game, another loss and another dross performance. We take a look at the players' ratings from the defeat to Middlesbrough on Saturday.

Vito Mannone - 6 - Not a lot Vito could do about either of the goals. Distribution was fine and made a crucial one-on-one save in the second half, not that it mattered anyway.

Chris Gunter - 5 - Reverted back to his usual spot of right-back after the first half injuries, but failed to offer much going forward. Possible question marks about his marking for the second goal.

Liam Moore - 6 - Despite the nasty clash of heads and being stitched up, Moore proved his metal once again by coming back out and putting in a solid showing. What did we do to deserve him?!

Tiago Ilori - N/A - The defender had a shaky start to the game, but grew into it, until a nasty clash of heads ended his game early. After checks at the hospital, he is fortunately back home.

Paul McShane - 5 - It wasn't the best day for the skipper, who was getting run ragged by the pace of Assombalonga all afternoon, which wasn't helped with his role that was more a right-back.

Joey van den Berg - 5 - Dropped in between the centre halves to attempt to get play started, but his passing was very off. The penalty may have been soft, but was too slow in making the challenge and it cost us.

Liam Kelly - 5 - A rare off day for the youngster, who despite the odd glimpse of quality, failed to get us going with his passing. I would like to have seen him closer to the box like he has been at the start of the season, but seems to playing too deep.

John Swift - 5 - Swifty still looks very short of match fitness, as he struggled to make an influence much of the game. His touch let him down on many occasions and looks a shadow of the player he was at this point last year.

Sone Aluko - 6 - The summer signing does seem to be the only player at the moment capable of creating something, but seems to be struggling considering the players around him lack confidence. He is being wasted at the moment.

Roy Beerens - 4 - Week after week he puts in abject performances, but still manages to make the team every week, I don't understand why. He was turned way too easily in the build up for the first goal and was out of position for the second. Offered nothing going forward.

Sam Smith - 6 - A first start for the academy graduate and he showed plenty of energy and was willing to put himself about amongst Boro's towering defenders. Unfortunately, it didn't help him that he had such starved supply all game.

Tyler Blackett - 5 - After a good start to the season, all his confidence appears to be zapped. He came on at left-back and looked nervous at times, giving the ball away in dangerous areas.

Modou Barrow - 6 - He showed more intent in 20 minutes than most did in 90, why he was on the bench I will never know.

Yann Kermorgant - N/A - The only real positive to take from the game was to see Yann back out on the pitch for the first time this season. Could he be the saviour once again?
