Reading To Keep Cup Squad

Reading To Keep Cup Squad

Reading will not be intimidated by facing Man Utd in the next round of the FA Cup.

The Berkshire outfit have traditionally fielded a selection of squad players in Cup matches and it seems they will not change this policy despite facing one of the best teams in England and Europe.

Speaking to the Reading`s official website Steve Coppell`s no.2, Kevin Dillon said:

"I'm sure there will be changes to the team that played against Villa, but it will be quality players who come in. We'll be changing the team - but not necessarily weakening it.

'If you look at the squad now it's very strong. We'll have people on the bench who can come on and change the game if needed.'

Reading will be boosted by the return of Kevin Doyle who will be more then likely to start the 5th Round game.

Since returning from injury at the beginning of the year, Dave Kitson and Bobby Convey have not been able to win back places in a team that has not lost in the league since before the New Year.

It is almost a certainty that the two who were pivotal in Reading`s Championship winning 05/06 season will start against United.

However Greg Halford and Michael Duberry will not feature with both players being cup-tied for Colchester United and Stoke City respectively. But other new boy Alan Bennett could make his first start for the club.

Here is my FA Cup XI , let us know what you think or better still tell us yours:

Goalkeeper: Adam Federici,

Defenders: John Halls, Sam Sodje, Alan Bennett, Ulises De la Cruz

Midfielders: Seol Ki Hyeon, Brynjar Gunnarsson, John Oster, Bobby Convey

Strikers: Kevin Doyle, Dave Kitson

Bench: Mikkel Andersen, Aaron Brown, Steve Sidwell, Simon Cox, Leroy Lita

Can I just say your club has been a real credit to the premiership & I hope it remains that way for many years. We may have beaten you quite easily at your ground, but I can honestly say that was a freak kind of result, & that future games will certainly be a lot closer. I sincerely wish you all the best for the rest of the season & hope you beat the fat walrus sam to fifth spot & get a well deserved uefa cup place. I would wish you luck for saturday but from what i hear you will be playing your reserves & so I cannot see you winning (but here's hoping anyway!!

Thanks for the kind words, Ashburton Gooner! It's always nice to receive praise from fans of other clubs. I think we lost so significantly to Arsenal earlier this season because we tried to play our natural game of passing the ball, but there's no team in this league that can match Arsenal in that sense.

cheers ash, id say, tom, that the early goal against aresnal destroyed our gameplan and gave the gooners a lot of confidence.
