Sky Sports have reported that Reading are amongst a host of clubs targeting Spanish defender Cesar Navas.
Navas, who is currently on loan with Gimnastic de Tarragona from Malaga, has alerted the attention of both the Royals and promotion hopefuls Sunderland while plying his trade with the La Liga strugglers.
Apparently both clubs have sent scouts to watch the former Real Madrid defender.
Navas was the subject of media specualation last summer when the 25-year-old was linked with Aston Villa and Charlton, a move to Charlton was supposedly on the cards but the deal fell through due because a transfer fee could not be agreed.
Meanwhile in the present, Navas has stated he knows nothing of any interest in him and insists that his attention is focused on helping Gimnastic steer clear of relegation rather then a transfer to England:
'Sincerely for me this is the first news I have heard but it is certain that in the past Malaga have received an offer and rejected it,' Navas told skysports.com.
'It is flattering but I only desire to work hard to help Nastic in the fight for safety.'
Navas took part in Gimnastic`s Sunday Liga game against Real Madrid but was sent off after only six minutes. 'Nastic went on to lose the game 2-0.
I`m not sure how much truth there is in this rumour, perhaps Reading did send a scout to watch the player but if there is one thing Reading have in abundance it is defender - especially with Bikey signing a permanent deal and Peter Mate trying to get one too.
