Navas A Royal Target?

Sky Sports have reported that Reading are amongst a host of clubs targeting Spanish defender Cesar Navas.

Navas, who is currently on loan with Gimnastic de Tarragona from Malaga, has alerted the attention of both the Royals and promotion hopefuls Sunderland while plying his trade with the La Liga strugglers.

Apparently both clubs have sent scouts to watch the former Real Madrid defender.
Navas was the subject of media specualation last summer when the 25-year-old was linked with Aston Villa and Charlton, a move to Charlton was supposedly on the cards but the deal fell through due because a transfer fee could not be agreed.

Meanwhile in the present, Navas has stated he knows nothing of any interest in him and insists that his attention is focused on helping Gimnastic steer clear of relegation rather then a transfer to England:

'Sincerely for me this is the first news I have heard but it is certain that in the past Malaga have received an offer and rejected it,' Navas told skysports.com.

'It is flattering but I only desire to work hard to help Nastic in the fight for safety.'

Navas took part in Gimnastic`s Sunday Liga game against Real Madrid but was sent off after only six minutes. 'Nastic went on to lose the game 2-0.

I`m not sure how much truth there is in this rumour, perhaps Reading did send a scout to watch the player but if there is one thing Reading have in abundance it is defender - especially with Bikey signing a permanent deal and Peter Mate trying to get one too.

Another defender? Soon we'll be able to field a starting eleven filled with just centre backs!!
Rogue
yeah right rogue! too many defenders... you'd think with sidwell almost out the door the media could at least link us with some central midfielders; it would provide food for thought bcos as far as replacements go i cant think of one a decent, unexpenisve one who isnt money motivated...

Got to agree, its getting ridiculous! we have enough defenders to start a small country. perhaps the chaps at Vital Reading could oblige with a midfielder rumour?
the royalist
on the subject of Navas though, he is a well rated defender he has played for both R.Madrid and B.Dortmund so i think we can trust his quality- which is more then some of the schmoes we get linked with!
the royalist
Who is this Navas? I need to watch my Eurosports more often...
kingsley the lion
As the Royalist says played for Madrid and Dortmund but apart from that I dont know a lot... i think he is good, not world class and not setting any worlds on fire but certainly worthy of Reading, but its not a position that needs filling!!!
