Glen Little could have played his last match for Reading as he is now going to have an operation on his Achilles tendon on Wednesday.
Having not played for Reading since late last season, when he first started having trouble with his injury, after a meeting with a specialist it has been decided surgery was required, "Glen and I recently saw a specialist in Achilles management problems," Jon Fearn told readingfc.co.uk.
"He thinks that what we may have is a small tear in the tendon that has not responded to the treatment we have given him."
Treatment has been tried over this time, but Little has not really responded to it so with this surgery, that is needed to finally cure the problem one and for all, all being well, he will now almost certainly miss this season, "I've been mucking about getting it to a certain level and it keeps breaking down," Glen Little told BBC Radio Berkshire.
"The man who's doing it knows what he's talking about - he seems to think it will be pretty routine and it will just be a case of operating and getting back out there.
"The only problem is a tendon takes longer to heal than a muscle but hopefully that is the end of it.
"It would be great if it was four months before I return but I would probably say write the season off."
31-year-old Little's contract is due to expire in the summer so it is now almost certain, should he not be able to return before it finishes, that he will not play another match for the club as his chances of getting a new contract don't look that good?
