Sonko Closing in on Return

Ibrahima Sonko has been battling his way back from a ruptured cruciate knee ligament injury, now he is virtually ready for a first team return.

After playing in several reserve matches, as well as some behind closed doors matches too the big defender could be back in the squad for the Premier League encounter with Blackburn on Saturday, "These games are really proving to be valuable for us and will be to our advantage," Steve Coppell told the Reading Evening Post.

"He will be very much in contention for the first-team squad in the next week. Once he has played four or five games we will know he is almost there.

"And he will have an impact when he comes back. He will bring a mentality, which unites us all. He knows he has also got a lot to prove at Premier League level."

Sonko has been missed tremendously by Reading during his injury absence this season, as well as the latter part of last season, having been out since January. He was a permanent fixture in the promotion season and has all the attributes to be a star performer in the Premier League, so he will now be looking to prove this with an imminent return.

I still don't think he will be quite ready to start this weekend but I'd be very surprised if he wasn't at least on the bench.
