Prepare for some New Year signings, this is the message that Director of football Nicky Hammond is delivering.
Reading are not only looking to buy to move away from the relegation zone, but also to buy in order to help further raise the profile of the club, and Hammond has admitted that money will be spent in January, so it could be a busy and interesting time even though others have rejected moves to the Madejski Stadium previously, "There are a large number of players who have declined us," Hammond told the Reading Post.
"We certainly need to add to the squad in January to give us some impetus.
"I talk about the potential of this football club and I genuinely believe we will continue to move forward.
"The noises I am getting from upstairs are very positive. We are doing enormous amounts of travelling to look at players and we already have a number of targets.
"If there was the chance to sign four or five top-quality players who would improve us then I would be behind that 100 percent.
"We want to bring in established Premiership players if we can and that would help build the belief here."
Spending money is easier than it sounds, you also have to sell the club to these targets and some are not swayed by the club as easily as others, but should we be in a better position come January this should be easier, "Our position in the table will be an influence when it comes to January. If we are where we are now or higher then we have a greater chance. If we were in Watford's position last year then it would be a lot harder," Hammond also went on to tell the Reading Post.
"Players know we have a good track record in bringing players in. But I want to send the message out that Reading is potentially a big Premiership club and this is the place to be.
"The potential here is amazing with the expansion plans of the stadium and facilities. This club has the capacity to grow."
What happens between now and January will not decide who does and doesn't sign, but it could make a large difference.
