Royals Sign Czech Star

Reading have signed Czech Republic international midfielder Marek Matejovsky for an undisclosed fee.

Matejovsky, who can play in the centre of midfield or down both wings, was club captain at his previous club Mlada Boleslav.

Royals Director of Football Nick Hammond had this to say; 'Marek is primarily a central midfield player but he is also capable of playing in both wide positions or behind the strikers.

'He has been playing for a smaller club in the Czech league but he is an established international who is likely to be included in the very strong Czech Republic squad in the Euro 2008 Finals.

'He is a player we have been following for some time, and when the opportunity arose to sign him it was too good to turn down.'

The midfielder has been capped by his country six times, and scored in the impressive 3-0 win over Germany last year.

Reading boss Steve Coppell believes Matejovsky has what it takes to be a big hit at Reading, he said, 'He's bright, bubbly, intelligent and we hope he can be a good acquisition.

'He's flexible, he's a good player. He can play centrally or wide, he's a bubbly character and can slot in a number of places.

'He's the right kind of fit.'

Matejovsky, a previous transfer target of Liverpool and Hamburg, is Steve Coppell's first signing of the January transfer window and although the manager would like to bring in some more new faces, he insists he won't be rushed into anything, 'In this window we certainly won't be doing anything like a panic signing or a four-month signing.'

Chief Scout Brian McDermott added, 'We'll see what happens in the next few weeks in terms of getting more in. I know the gaffer is happy with the squad.'

The signing of Matejovsky will be officially unveiled at a press conference today at 3pm.

I hope that Marek Matejovsky’s signing will prove to be a hit at Reading. It is defiantly an interesting signing, could this be another piece of good business for the Royals

He sounds pretty decent. Lets hope he gets put in the team pretty much straight away rather than leaving him to rot like fae!!
