'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Nwoko a No-Go

Reading Director of Football Nicky Hammond, has revealed that Reading will not be following up their interest in Malta international Udo Nwoko.

Nwoko had previously claimed that he had undergone a medical at the Madejski Stadium and had all but signed a contract with the Royals, but Hammond has been quick to deny this rumour.

Hammond said, 'Wally Downes saw Nwoko in an international fixture for Malta and thought he would be worth a further look.

'We contacted his club Leixoes and arranged for him to spend two days training with us in January on a trial basis.

'After that trial we decided that we did not wish to pursue any interest in the player because he did not meet the required standard.

'We did not hold even preliminary discussions with Leixoes regarding a potential transfer and he did not undertake any medical examination.'

Although the Royals will not be signing Nwoko, boss Steve Coppell has refused to rule out any more signings before the end of the window.

He said, 'I don't foresee any more deals, but you can never tell.

'We're not in a dialogue to move anyone, either in or out.

'But as always things can change quickly.'
