Charlton vs. Reading

The Valley

23rd August 2011

7.45pm KO

Charlton (A) Match Preview

Later than scheduled, Reading take on Chris Powell's unbeaten Charlton at the Valley in the first round of this years Carling Cup.

Vital Quotes:

Charlton boss Chris Powell:'I'll look at training, I'll look at DVDs of the games and at other aspects of the game but for Reading I will definitely make changes. I'm sure Reading will also make changes, knowing Brian [McDermott], but it's a game that I want to win against a good team who were 90 minutes away from the Premier League.'

Charlton Team News:

Addicks boss Chris Powell has named the same line-up for consecutive games but has admitted he will make changes. Bradley Pritchard, Danny Green and Jason Euell are all set to start while former Royal Andy Hughes is set to play.

Player to watch: Bradley Wright-Phillips

The striker that the Royals turned down signing last year has made a big influence already at the Valley, scoring 11 goals in 25 appearances.

Reading Team News:

Brian McDermott will also ring the changes. Andy Griffin is still injured due to his hamstring but Shaun Cummings is set to play as he has recovered from a knock. Marcus Williams is definitely out so new signing Joe Mills could start.

Possible Starting XI: McCarthy, Cummings, Pearce, Morrison, Mills, Obita, Howard, Tabb, HRK, Church, Manset

Player to watch: Jordan Obita

The 17-year old midfielder had a fantastic pre-season with the Royals, scoring on 2 occasions and could be given his chance tonight after being on the bench in the league.

Match Facts & Stats

- Chris Powell's side are still unbeaten this season as they sit second in League One.

- The Royals have failed to win at the Valley in five attempts, with their last victory coming in 1995.

- The winners of the tie will face Preston North End in the second round at home.

Match Prediction:

I can see this match going all the way to penalties with it being a 2-2 score draw.
