Rakels earns The Royals a point

Queens Park Rangers
1 - 1

Loftus Road

23rd April

Attendance: 16,225

Deniss Rakels scored his third goal for Reading to cancel out an earlier header from the QPR centre half, Hall.

It was a poor game with two teams really punching below their weight.

The game started slowly, without many clear cut chances and it didn't get much better.

Al-Habsi made one good save from a Chery free kick in the first half, but apart from that, QPR really struggled to create anything.

After 35 minutes, Reading's defence was again caught out too easily as Hall headed home at the back post.

However, this lead only lasted about 6 minutes as Deniss Rakels cooly fired home an equaliser to send the teams in at the break level.

Half time was then the best bit of the game by far as the travelling Royals fans continually sung Rakels' name.

The second half was much of the same with two teams lacking that spark in the final third to excite the fans and make something happen.

McDermott opted to make defensive substitutes as it looked like he was settling for a draw. This disappointed me as us 1,600 Reading fans that travelled deserved some excitement and goals as we have nothing to play for, why not go for it.

His defensive tactics paid off and it petered out to a boring 1-1 draw.

Reading and McDermott really do have a big summer ahead if we want to compete next year.

We are simply not good enough.

Star Player

Deniss Rakels had another exciting game. His finish was class and hopefully we'll see a lot of that next season.
