The goalscoring striker began his career at his hometown in Stockport where he scored 18 goals in 63 appearances and was eventually sold to Rochdale in 2007 after a successful loan spell.
One of the Football League's most prolific strikers then signed for Ronnie Moore's Rotherham United where he enjoyed his best goalscoring form, hitting 54 goals in 96 appearances.
This form did not go unnoticed by many teams and eventually got his opportunity with Championship side Reading, where he signed a three-year deal.
