The Russian international began his career at Spartak Moscow, going on several loan spells during his four year tenure there. After joining Tom Tomsk and earning his breakthrough, he joined Zenit in 2007. Pog was joint top-scorer in the 2007-08 UEFA Cup season, where he scored 10 goals in the tournament.

Pavel then joined German side Stuttgart in 2009, but did not have the desired impact, only scoring 15 goals in 68 games. Premier League side Fulham gained his loan services in January 2012 and impressed hugely at Craven Cottage. After becoming a free agent in June, he decided to join Reading on a four-year contract.
