The Opposition View - Portsmouth

The Opposition View - Portsmouth
With very special thanks to pompeyrug from Vital Pompey, we ask a few questions on tomorrow night's game against Portsmouth.

----------------------------------------------------------

1. What are your expectations for the season?

Pompey and 'expectations' do not really go hand-in-hand these days, although I would be happy with improvement on last season - and even given our 'lack of numbers' their should be enough quality in this squad for that, unless injuries/suspensions strike...

2. What are your strengths and weaknesses as a team?

Strengths I would have to say are that the squad 'seems' pretty close and bonded, which always helps. When on the top of our game defensively we ought to be sound really. Of course the fans that we have at PFC are worth something extra too!

Weaknesses, without a doubt, are our lack of numbers in the squad. The starting 11 is as good as most, but there is not really anything, or anyone, to change things during a game or cover if needed. Also another weak area, again 'without a doubt', is our attacking threat, we are far too light in this area and even those that we have are hardly 'goalscorers'.

3. Who are the player/s to look out for?

Greg Halford will cause problems with his aerial ability from set-pieces and will cause them with his throw-ins too. Chuck (David Norris) coming through from midfield will need to be watched too and 'if' Benjani gets a run-out he will be well up for it.

4. Are you pleased with the work your gaffer has done?

He has his 'faults' for me, which I am not sure will change too much but I have been very vocal on my opinion that he got a 'clean slate' this summer. He is very single minded it seems, sometimes a good thing other times not. With a lack of numbers he will always be cut some slack but I have to be honest I am not entirely convinced by his tactical ability...

I would love us to bring in another 3 or 4 players and have a 'proper squad' to see what he can do but I am not entirely convinced he will be here come the end of the season, not that I am saying I want this to be the case - just being honest with thoughts I have had recently.

5. Predication of the game?

Without Long I think, not that I know, things will be slightly different for you guys this season - you are still a well organised and a top quality outfit though. At home I would 'hope' we could collect all 3pts, although would not be surprised with a draw.

2-1 Pompey though for me! Then again I am biased of course...
