Scout Report - Michael Hector

Scout Report - Michael Hector
With many thanks to Cheltenham season ticket holder Sean Taylor (@SeanTaylor_CTFC), we have asked a few questions about our promising young defender Michael Hector. The 20-year old joined in January and went onto make 20 appearances for Mark Yeates' side. Thanks Sean!

-------------------------------------------------------

1) Hector has primarily been known to us Royals fans as a centre back, but played in central midfield occasionally on loan at Barnet last season. Where did he mainly play for you?

Michael Hector played ever game since coming on loan from Reading and played every game at Centre back. I am a season ticket holder and go to most away games so got to see him on a weekly basis.

2) What strengths did you see in him during his tenure?

Obviously at the time Reading where a Premiership team and we where excited at the prospects of a future Prem star being featured in our team. His strengths when it comes to defending is his determination in winning the ball with good solid tackles and passion. he attacking ability in League 2 was quite effective scoring a vital goal against Gillingham to secure us a 1-0 win which guaranteed us playoffs.

3) Any noticeable weaknesses that he needs to improve on?

At time you could tell he had real potential and sometime his class looked out of place at this level as it shone. I can put it down to his inexperience and age but sometimes his heading wasn't very effective and would not clear the ball very effectively. his decision making at times lacked confidence. Also as mentioned his ball winning ability from an oncoming player was brilliant but after he had won it he would often lose it or miss place the place. Basically doing the hard bit and falling at the last hurdle.

4) Would you have him on loan again next season?

I would happily have him again next season BUT FROM THE START! coming in half way could of been hard for him trying to adapt to the way we play. but with a prolonged period he would have (I believe) ironed out the kinks.

5) Some Reading fans are tipping him to be involved in our squad next
season. From what you have seen of him, do you reckon he could cope with the Championship?

With his form at the moment and the little mistakes he makes a regular in the Championship wouldn't be realistic but building experience through being a substitute and training full time with the Reading team would build this. after all he is only about 20 years old.
