The Championship 2013/14 - Millwall
Nickname: The Lions
Ground: New Den (Capacity: 20,146)
When we face off: Sat 26th October (H), Sat 1st February (A)
Last season finish: 20th - Championship
Manager: Steve Lomas - The former St Johnstone manager wasn't the most popular choice among Millwall fans, due to his previous allegiances with rivals West Ham. Lomas will therefore want to win over the fans pretty quickly. The 39-year old has deserved his chance to manage in England, after a fine spell in Scotland, leading St Johnstone into third place and into the qualifying spaces for the Europa League.
Key player: Danny Shittu - The Lions captain was voted player of the year for last season, following some fine performances in central defence. The Championship continues to be a very physical division and it is that physicality that Shittu can match and therefore make him a crucial asset to the Lions side. At the age of 32, the former QPR defender isn't getting any younger, but still has a lot to offer Millwall in terms of experience.
Season Preview - Since achieving promotion in 2010, under former long-serving manager Kenny Jackett, the Lions normally achieved comfortable midtable finishes in the second tier. However, last season, Millwall struggled more so than previous campaigns and survived relegation on the last day. Jackett opted to step down and I think this could have a massive downturn effect. Lomas needs to get off to a good start, or the fans will soon get on his back and confidence deteriorates as a result. I have a feeling it could be another relegation dogfight for the Lions this season.
