Player Ratings - Watford (A)

Player Ratings - Watford (A)
Vital Reading looks at the players' individual performances after their victory against Watford on Saturday. As you will probably tell, defensively we were very impressive.

Alex McCarthy - 8 - He has had much busier afternoon's this season, but the young keeper still had to be on the top of his game to make some good saves. Aerially he came for balls into his box and his distribution was much better today as well.

Chris Gunter - 7 - Another solid and consistent performance from the Welshman, which is becoming somewhat of a trend now. He offered as much as he could going forward and was well protected by McCleary.

Alex Pearce - 7 - Praise must go to the centre back duo for keeping Deeney quiet for the most part of the game, especially physically. Pearcey also dealt well with the techincal ability of Fabbrini, denying him as much space as possible.

Kaspars Gorkss - 7 - Very much the same as Pearce's performance really, very solid. Great movement and header for the goal.

Jordan Obita - 8 - Man of the Match - There were many contenders for MotM, but Obita's mature performance in an unfamiliar position gets it for me. Defensively he was strong and made good decisions and naturally offered good pace and width going forward. Superb delivery for Gorkss' goal too.

Garath McCleary - 6 - A few glimpses of what he can be capable of at his best, but like previous weeks, was too anonymous.

Hope Akpan - 7 - A strange decision to bring him in but Adkins, but a justified one with a good performance. Looked much more comfortable in possession and played at a higher tempo than Guthrie.

Danny Williams - 8 - His best game in a Reading shirt for me. The USA international moved the ball about the pitch very well, making the most of the width when Watford went to 4-3-3. He was all over the pitch and constantly harrying Watford's midfielders.

Jobi McAnuff - 8 - Same as Williams, best performance this season from the skipper. Tremendous work rate as ever and looked a threat when he was coming inside. Very unlucky not to score with a good run and shot.

Adam le Fondre - 6 - Alfie didn't really stand a chance with our direct style in this game, but you couldn't fault his work rate. Only had one effort at goal, but will probably have to give more to the side if he wants to prove a point to the manager.

Pavel Pogrebnyak - 7 - Our direct style today meant that the big Russian was going to be crucial and he duly obliged with a very good performance. Superb hold up play throughout and was unlucky to not have scored a couple of headers.

Nick Blackman, Jake Taylor and Shaun Cummings were all brought on within the last ten minutes, so didn't have a massive impact on the game.
