Player Ratings - Derby (H)

Player Ratings - Derby (H)
After a stalemate with fellow play-off hopefuls Derby, Vital Reading looks at the players' individual performances from the game.

Alex McCarthy - 7 - Confident performance from the young keeper, who made a superb save to deny Bamford late on. His distribution is still hit and miss, but he is doing the crucial things right, which is the main thing.

Chris Gunter - 8 - At the age of 24, it seems the Welshman is starting to show the potential he earned a reputation for many seasons ago. Solid defensive performance and going forward, he offered as much as he could.

Alex Pearce - 7 - Followed up on a MotM Leeds performance with a good one here too, having a good battle with Martin, where the defender certainly came out on top. Won most of his aerial battles and looked solid throughout.

Kaspars Gorkss - 7 - Same as Pearce, very solid. His distribution from the back was questionable, but as we already know, is not his strong point. Is doing enough to justify a place in the side over Hector at the moment.

Jordan Obita - 6 - Slightly confused as to why some said he was MotM. He did OK against a good, technical winger in Ward, but made some questionable decisions. Twice he allowed the ball to go out, only for it to not go his way.

Hope Akpan - 6 - First half, his passing was shocking & came out second best in most of his challenges. Second half, he was much better, but still looks a liability at times - Williams will come straight back in when fit.

Danny Guthrie - 8 - VR MotM - If we didn't have Guthrie's composure in midfield, I highly doubt we would still be in the play-off race. Constantly he was keeping us ticking in midfield with Derby pressure, also doing his defensive duties when needed.

Garath McCleary - 6 - Up and down game from McCleary, who clearly wasn't at his best. He may have looked off the pace in this one, but you can't deny that he set up our best two chances of the game in the second half.

Royston Drenthe - 6 - Unfortunately he didn't carry on his good form from Brighton and Leeds, as he struggled to make a stamp on the game. Had our best chance in the first half. Disappointed he has taken off instead of McCleary.

Jobi McAnuff - 6 - It was an ineffective game from the skipper, despite not lacking in effort as ever. It seemed all too predictable him coming inside, especially when he was reluctant to use width and overlaps from Obita.

Hal Robson-Kanu - 6 - Only lasted 30 minutes due to injury, but was starved of service in his short cameo. Still yet to convince me whether he is capable of being a striker yet, but showed promise against Leeds.

Adam le Fondre - 6 - Surprised he was used as a loan striker, but will certainly be remembered as the culprit for this one, missing a great chance in the second half. Had a late goal disallowed rightly for handball.

Nick Blackman - 6 - Odd choice to partner Alfie with Pog still an unused sub, but he did OK. Unlucky not to score with a well-timed volley late on.
