Player Ratings - Huddersfield (H)

Player Ratings - Huddersfield (H)
After another home disappointment, Vital Reading takes a look at the players' individual performances in the draw with Huddersfield.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Alex McCarthy - 8 - VR Motm - After some critics arguing Federici should come back into the side, McCarthy put in his best performance in a few months. Made two superb saves in the first half and his all-round distribution was very much improved on compared to Tuesday night.

Chris Gunter - 6 - A mixed game from Gunter, who was definitely exposed in the first half, with all of Huddersfield's opportunities coming from his side. Second half was much more solid, but didn't seem to the offer the same attacking threat that he has throughout this season.

Alex Pearce - 7 - Wells on paper would have been a handful for him, but I thought he dealt with him rather well. It was a much better performance than the other night, winning the majority of his headers and making some crucial interceptions. Hopefully after this one he is back to his best.

Sean Morrison - 6 - It was good to see him back in the side after four months out, but it was his mistake that allowed Wells to score early on. Morro responded well though, looking comfortable for the majority of the game, despite not obviously being fully match fit yet.

Jordan Obita - 6 - Good game from the young left back, who is continuing to improve. He seemed to be our only attacking outlet at times, it is just a shame he isn't exploited more when in space. With Bridge's contract running out in the summer, there is really no need to extend it with his current form.

Michael Hector - 6 - The young defender was used in a central midfield role and while he didn't exactly set the world alight, he did well. He was a crucial asset in the air and made some good interceptions, but his passing was hit and miss - does he bring more to the table than Akpan?

Danny Williams - 5 - Like Morrison, it was good to see him back in the side, but was it slightly too soon? He didn't have his usual energy in midfield and was second to the majority of his challenges. The American midfielder was also quite wasteful when in space and possession.

Garath McCleary - 5 - I cannot remember him touching the ball in the opening twenty minutes of the game, which has been the story of his season at times. There doesn't seem to be the same flair and confidence to his game that he had a few months ago, hopefully it will return soon.

Hal Robson-Kanu - 5 - Unlikely McCleary, HRK did see some of the ball, but was utterly wasteful with it. Unable to hold the ball up effectively and is not by any means a number ten player. He made his name as a winger and I am yet to see any evidence to why he should be a striker in the long-term.

Jobi McAnuff - 6 - The skipper received a bit of unjust stick from the fans and is slowly being a Madejski scapegoat. While it wasn't exactly an outstanding performance from Jobi, it wasn't a bad one - he did very well for the penalty, but apart from that, the game passed him by.

Pavel Pogrebnyak - 6 - Pog did all that he could in this one, merely feeding off scraps in a lack of service. Good penalty for the second time this week and was unlucky not to score a header, after some good play in the first half. Hardly any link up play between him and HRK.

----------------------SUBSTITUTES----------------------

Royston Drenthe - 5 - I was surprised to see him dropped, especially with HRK still apparently justifying a place, but looked half-bothered when he came on. Didn't do anything to justify a starting spot next week, but may just get one with HRK looking dire in the past few games.

Adam le Fondre - 5 - As I said after Tuesday night, it is utterly pointless bringing Alfie on if we are not going to create any opportunities for him. Tried playing off the shoulder, but like Pog, was just feeding off loose balls and is never going to win headers against 6'3 centre-halfs.

Hope Akpan - 5 - Only came on for the final ten minutes, but didn't have any influence on the game and lost the ball with his first touches. With Guthrie returning from suspension next week, I would expect to see Akpan on the bench once again, with Williams partnering Guthrie in midfield.
