Player Ratings - Ipswich (H)
Adam Federici - 7 - Feders didn`t really have to make many saves bar one good smother on McGoldrick and claim a few high balls. Distribution was good too - McCarthy may have to wait a little while to get his number one spot back at the moment.
Chris Gunter - 7 - Another good defensive performance from the stand in skipper, who kept the lively Tabb on hold for most of the afternoon. He was also showing willingness to get forward and help the attack too, which is great to see.
Alex Pearce - 7 - Playing alongside someone like Hector may not improve Pearce as a player, but it will certainly hide away his weaknesses with pace in behind. He dealt with Murphy`s physicality well and won the majority of the aerial battles.
Michael Hector - 8 - Man of the Match - Struggles against a League Two side in central midfield in midweek, then puts in a man of the match showing at centre half against a good Championship side - it`s no coincidence. A classy and confident performance from the young player, who kept McGoldrick at bay for the time he was on.
Shaun Cummings - 7 - The defensive side of Cummings` game is top notch at the moment, making no errors and reading the game well. It`s a just a shame that he can`t overlap with Taylor much, as his left-foot lets him down, but Adkins said he is working hard to improve it.
Jordan Obita - 7 - Good performance again from Obita, who is maturing well in this central midfield position. He is never afraid to get his foot on the ball and spread the play, which is great to see from a young player. Who knows where Obita`s strongest position is?
Hope Akpan - 5 - Hope really needed to prove a point to the manager in this game, but probably failed to do so on the whole. He is a better player when he isn`t on the ball - his passing and touch wasn`t good or quick enough, which is a shame, as he had a promising pre-season.
Nick Blackman - 6 - Quiet game from another player who has had a good start to the season. With Mings being right-footed and playing left-back, it stopped Blackman cutting onto his favoured left-foot and from being effective in the game.
Simon Cox - 6 - First league start for the new signing, but still doesn`t look 100% just yet. It`s clear he has bundles of energy and it will need time for him to gel into that number ten position behind Pog, but he hasn`t had the desired impact yet, but hopefully will soon.
Jake Taylor - 6 - Very well taken goal from young Taylor, who would have enjoyed that moment and deservedly so. However, despite his goal, he is wasted out wide and is ineffective, which probably isn`t helped by Cummings being unable to overlap well on his weak side.
Pavel Pogrebnyak - 7 - Good performance from big Pav, who gave the two Ipswich centre-half`s a good battle, which he probably won in the end. He battled well throughout, especially in the latter periods when we were dropping deeper.
It was a shame we didn`t see Ryan Edwards earlier than we did, as he brought an energy and yard of pace to the game we were missing. Young Jake Cooper came on for his professional debut and won a few important headers, while Jack Stacey didn`t have time to have an impact on the game.
