Player Ratings - Cardiff (A)

Player Ratings - Cardiff (A)
Vital Reading takes a look at the players' individual performances from the victory over Cardiff. Second half goals from Oliver Norwood and Hal Robson-Kanu secured a deserved progression into the next round of the cup.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Adam Federici - 6 - Bar the goal and a routine save from Jones, it was a fairly quiet game from Feders. A few good claims in the air, but could have been more assertive in that area.

Chris Gunter - 6 - Suffered a knock early on and was brought off later because of it. No problems defensively before he was subbed.

Michael Hector - 7 - It was going to be a tough game for Hec considering the size of Jones and Revell, but put in a very solid showing. His only downside was losing Jones for Cardiff's goal.

Alex Pearce - 7 - The skipper continued his recent revival under Clarke, with another good showing. A much improved game from the one he had on this ground two months ago, that's for sure!

Jordan Obita - 7 - Seemingly back to his best, going by his second half performance. He struggled in periods of the first half, but was rarely troubled in the second. It was his attacking intent in the second half that won us the game.

Nathaniel Chalobah - 6 - The new loanee hasn't played much football recently, so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt, but not a spectacular debut. A few loose touches and passes, but a couple of good ones too. I'm sure he will improve game-by-game.

Oliver Norwood - 8 - Man of the Match - Classy display from the midfielder, who opened his Reading account with a smart free-kick. His overall influence was outstanding, which was probably helped by a lack of pressing from Cardiff.

Danny Williams - 7 - A typical Williams performance, determined and driven. Harried the Cardiff midfield off the ball and drove us forward on it when we were breaking.

Garath McCleary - 6 - Cardiff clearly watched the Fulham game from last week and the havoc he caused, as GMac had a fairly anonymous game here. Malone did a job to keep him out the game.

Pavel Pogrebnyak - 6 - The big Russian had a decent chance in the first half which he didn't take, but looked much more effective in the second. Great work rate and hold up, which earned Norwood's free kick for the goal.

Nick Blackman - 7 - This was his chance to prove himself and did so, as his manager praised him after the game. He was the only player in the first half attempting to create anything and his drifting in the second period caused problems for Cardiff.

---------------------------SUBSTITUTES---------------------------

Stephen Kelly - 6 - Nothing spectacular from Kelly, who came on for the injured Gunter. Did his job with no fuss and made a few verges forward.

Hal Robson-Kanu - 7 - Great impact from HRK, who finished his goal really well.

Jake Cooper - N/A - Brought on in the dying minutes to deal with Cardiff's expected last resort of pumping it long.
