Player Ratings - Brighton (H)

Player Ratings - Brighton (H)
After a long wait for a home victory, Vital Reading looks at the players' individual ratings from Tuesday night's win against Brighton. Two goals from Jame Mackie secured the three points at the Madejski Stadium.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Adam Federici - 6 - Not a lot for Feders to do really, had no chance with a well-hit penalty. Good handling with a few other shots and kicking good on a tough surface.

Chris Gunter - 6 - Solid enough game from the Welshman, who was rarely troubled in the first half. Lua Lua gave him some problems in the second half, but stood firm. Got forward well in the first half at times, but his crossing was poor.

Michael Hector - 7 - Big Hec's resurgence under Clarke continues, in another commanding performance in Pearce's absence. O'Grady is tough customer at this level physically, but dealt with him well for the most part.

Jake Cooper - 7- I'm going to be slightly biased and ignore the penalty decision in his rating, as bar that, he had a very solid game. Won the majority of his aerial battles and looked much more comfortable with the ball at his feet than the last time he played. The penalty was soft, but was naive to push Ledesma so clearly - he will learn from it though.

Nathaniel Chalobah - 7 - Classy performance from the Chelsea loanee, who showed his versatility by filling in at left-back. Very strong in the tackle and was rarely beaten by Ledesma, who helped Chalobah by constantly cutting onto his stronger left side and not on Chalobah's weaker side.

Garath McCleary - 6 - Pretty anonymous game from GMac, who didn't seize his opportunity. He had a few good moments in the first half, but the end quality was lacking. Quiet second half, but did surprisingly well on set-piece duty.

Hope Akpan - 7 - Good game from Hope, who put in a very good shift in midfield. His passing was a lot tidier than usual and also played a few more penetrating passes than usual, most of which came off.

Danny Williams - 7 - Just your average performance from Williams in his current form really - full of energy, passion and drive. There were a few occasions where he overplays it slightly, but normally finds the right pass in the end.

Hal Robson-Kanu - 5 - I'm sorry Hal, but it just wasn't your game again. The work rate was there, but no end quality unfortunately. He lost all his composure early on by a missing a great chance, which set his tone for the game. He was getting in good positions though, which is promising.

Nick Blackman - 6 - Good shift from Blackman, who played as a central striker. Good pressing of the Brighton backline when they had the ball. Unfortunately he played with his back to goal a lot of the time, which isn't where his game flourishes, but still held it up well enough to bring others into play.

Jamie Mackie - 9 - Man of the Match - We had lots of good opportunities in the final third in this game, but there was only one man who had the quality to go with it. Superb footwork and finish for the first goal, with the same applying to the second on his weaker side. You can't help but love Mackie for his tireless work rate on top, could there be potential for a deal in the summer? We'll see.
